Its funny how certain posters always seem to turn quasi informative MD vs DO threads into typical SDN premed trash just to inflate their post count. Its a shame.

According to a former AOA president, ideally they would eventually have only one exam. As of now, they agreed that everything needed to be equivalent as far as testing so that means it would only be necessary to have one test. How long this transition will take is anyone's guess.

I don't really have any regrets about going DO. I'm happy to be given a chance to be a doctor, and I'm making the most of it. It's a little frustrating if you think about it as having doors closed to you, but I use that as part of my motivation to do well. I'm fortunate that the specialties that I'm primarily interested in now are fairly DO friendly, and I'd expect to do well enough to match at a highly-regarded ACGME program (though as a second year, I've yet to take the USMLE/COMLEX or start rotations). If I change my mind and want to do something more competitive, I'll hopefully be able to at least match somewhere on the AOA side and spend my life doing what I want to do. I've never gone to a big name school, so while I'd like to train at a "brand name" residency, it's not a catastrophe if I don't.

My only regret about being an osteopathic medical student is not putting more effort into learning OMM. Some of the claims of our faculty turned me off to it, but I'm starting to realize that it does have its uses. I don't feel that it'd be worth taking a DO acceptance over an MD one, but it's another tool in the toolbox.

If someone had told me I'd be guaranteed an MD acceptance if I waited another year, I might've taken them up on it. But spending another year or more going to school and learning about things that will never have any practical use to you with no guarantees on the outcome doesn't seem worth it to me.

The gif is actually from the site I admin. We have better smilies 😛 but we also steal them all from random sites so go ahead and take it if you want it.

In no way am I trying to go at you, I get why you said it and I agree, but I still feel like the senseless trolling (which he admitted to) just contributes to more misinformation. This community is about helping people out and educating others. Especially when it comes to regular hot topics, we shouldn't reinforce wrong ideas. With a dead horse like this topic it is just plain annoying to see someone blatantly spreading wrong information.
 
I'll respond because this semi-useful thread has seemed to fizzle out and there is nothing really left to derail. Sliceofbread made an objectively unfunny post in a thread that seemed to have somewhat decent discussion about current and future exams prior to the different types of matches. And while I am aware he is "trolling" or pretending to troll (cliche trolling, as I refer to it) other posters may be reading and not know. 2 of them did just this and responded in an appropriate, not over the top way explaining how little his post contributed. Unfortunately, it was just before Winged could make her voice heard, but hey that will happen. The mods are not up to the real time second. You then basically chastised them for being "too serious" which to seems sort of counter-intuitive because they simply posted their reasonable objection to such a ****ty post without starting some inordinate debacle. And I don't know why you're flattered. I didn't read through any of your past posts. I browse the occasional thread and have seen you exemplify this type of behavior before. You were blatantly doing it the MedPR thread and another associated thread and I believe you may have even been called out on it. In brevity, stop getting on your knees for prominent/frequent posters to curry favor in your name, or whatever you motive may be.

Dude, calm down. I didn't read your post because it's a rant against me for no particular reason, and it's an attempt to aggravate the situation. If you don't like something, you don't have to respond. You're trying to aggravate the situation, when we are trying to reach the same goal of trying to avoid arguments. Now, I don't believe I said anything wrong about you in particular... so why are you attacking me?
