Like GenChem Lab, Organic Chemistry Lab, etc?

Are they just considered regular classes and not as lab experience?

They're considered regular classes.

Volunteering or working in an active lab is much different than that of a curriculum-based lab where protocols have been tested again and gain to bring forth optimal results.

I'm only asking because I read somewhere (can't remember where) about how students should put something like "worked in a chemistry lab" to help strengthen their resumes. I thought it was bogus so I thought I'd ask here to make sure.

You can totally do that, just be prepared to explain what that means in an interview. If your interviewer realizes you're talking about a course they won't take you seriously and will know you did that to pad your resume, a negative thing to have imo.

Very negative. Having done research myself I would feel disrespected if someone tried to pass off having experience because they took a lab class.

Your research doesn't have to be in a lab setting fyi (except for any heavy duty research schools)
If you get the opportunity great, if not, that's ok too. Many other things matter more, starting with your numbers.

Never thought about this before, but what about a structured independent experimental chemistry lab? Its a year long lab class for units but is research based. Each student has to propose and have their own thesis approved by a committee in order to enroll.

None. Lab experience is you going out and learning about the scientific technique, not A technique.
