Do any schools require a LOR specifically from a writing prof?

Not that I know of. They might ask for a non-science professor but not a writing professor. That's a little too specific I think.

None that I've ever been aware of. Science and non-science were the most strict requirements I received.

Nope, never heard of it. However, if someone scores not so hot on verbal, I'd recommend having one of my LORs being from a writing/English prof.
