First time poster in SDN. I'm an odd candidate and need to know what I'm working with. I know its a high MCAT for DO, but I have a crap GPA, am what kind of success rate am I looking at getting DO interviews.

Stats below

MCAT 512 127/124/131/130
cGPA: 3.3
sGPA: 3.12
ECs normal, 100 clinical/100 non clinical/ 80 shadow with 20 surgeon and rest ER
Non traditional, Working engineering, older
Maybe a URM (south american, who knows on this anymore).

What is your state of residence? (This matters)
What is your sGPA in your last 60 credits?

South Americans are not underrep in medicine, but fluency in Spanish and a demonstrated interested in helping the underserved Spanish speaking community will be a plus if you have it.

I do a lot of latino work and am somewhat can communicate in Spanish. Wouldn't want to negotiate in it.

Illinois

Estimating 3.2-3.3. No Cs in there. some As but mostly Bs

I'd apply broadly and to some linked SMPS too.. Honestly with your MCAT you could get into MD linked SMP programs.. I'd apply to some of those.

Obviously your gpas are gonna hurt you man. Have a plan B. I think you could get into one of the newer schools though. Again, I'd definitely apply to MD SMPs.

Fantastic MCAT. Okay cGPA. Low sGPA. I think you could land some interviews with those stats if you applied early and broadly. Apply to as many schools as you can afford, and throw in a few new schools. You should be fine.

Good luck OP!

Suggest applying broadly to DO schools, and also the three PR schools that take mainlanders. UIC might be worth a shot as well, and definitely SIU IF you're from southern IL.

Thanks for the response all. If there's one thing I have control of now it's going broad and early.

I'm going to get this science gpa calculated asap (think it maybe higher) May update after or put in official "what are my chances" thread. The app is way more work than I originally estimated. I should have started on Feb. Good luck all!

I am from So IL, would you list/expand upon this in their secondary?

I know someone with an MCAT >95 percentile who's matriculating to a DO school. I don't think your MCAT is *too* high for DO.
