So, I have asked this question once, but did not quite get the response I needed, so I am just hoping for some advice.

I have taken 8 hours of General Chemistry (I and II) with labs, 4 hours of Organic Chemistry with a lab (just organic I), and 6 hours of Biochemistry with no lab. My university does not offer biochemistry with a lab option. It is instead a stand-alone lab worth 2 credit hours.

I was just wondering on how my chemistry stuff would affect my overall application? I know that I wont be able to apply to some schools, but at the other schools will it be frowned upon? Basically, I am missing a lab course from the schools that substitute Organic for Biochem.

I have the option have taking the Organic 2 with lab this summer or the Biochemistry lab in the Fall if needed, but I just don't know what to do. Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In order to maintain your candidacy for as many schools as possible, be sure to take both the organic chemistry 2 (and lab) as well as the biochemistry lab. I suggest considering an opportunity to do well in upper-level coursework to help distinguish your application.

I understand that not having Organic 2 will limit the schools that I can apply to; my question was more about how schools who do not require Organic 2 actually view not having it. And the other half was that most schools will substitute Biochemistry with a lab in place of Organic 2 but I would have to take that lab independently.

The complicated issue here is that I have already graduated, and I am working on my masters degree. It would be easier to not have to take either, and only apply to schools that allow Biochem without lab to substitute for Organic 2; but I do not want to take this option if schools degrade applicants with this type of Chemistry sequence.

However, I truly, and deep-heartedly appreciate your response. Thank you!

I second the orgo 2and lab, although i dont think many places IF any require biochem lab.

No, most schools do not require biochem lab UNLESS they substitute Biochem for Organic 2 in which case I believe Biochemistry has to have lab.

ie. Campbell COM
"One Year Lecture with Labs-this includes all courses listed under the Organic Chemistry (may substitute 1 semester of Biochemistry with Lab for Organic Chemistry II)"

But some do not such as Western:
"8 semester units each of Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, including lab; we will accept a sequence that includes Biochemistry if the total is 16 semester units minimum."

You need to have 2 semesters of Orgo both with labs.

If schools can accept Orgo with your Biochem, make sure it has lab.
