I have a 3.7 cGPA/sGPA and surprisingly got a 521 on the MCAT. I was planning on applying to DO schools this cycle but am now reconsidering. My EC's are pretty lackluster though and letter of recs are generic. Would DO schools screen me out because they don't think I would attend? I want to apply this cycle just in case I don't get into any MD schools, but don't want to waste my time.

Literally what? You have a 3.7 GPA and ~40 on the mcat. I guess apply to DO's if you enjoy giving away your money?

you will probably get interview and accepted, no worry.

If you apply at the end of the cycle to DO schools with no DO letter, they'll no. One of them is bound to take you though.

Someone asked this question a while back, but the answer is no for most schools. They will not think that, and you aren't the first person to apply with high stats. They will take you much more seriously if you have a DO letter and apply at the beginning of the cycle as well. (Same as everyone else)

Contrary to popular belief there are some students with excellent stats that prefer DO, so they won't be biased toward you. Most DO schools however understand that students with high stats gun for MD first. Can't blame the students so ur fine.

The issue will be with applying early and getting an acceptance at a DO school you'll have to put down a deposit in December for DO to hold it, so you risk losing it if you get an MD offer later.

Your stats on the surface are great for MD and DO so you'll likely end up somewhere unless there is something like a poison pill in your application (say an ethical or some legal issue )

You owe it to yourself to have your first cycle be MD only. If you don't get in then think about DO next cycle

You won't need DO. We all know the MD cycle is an absolute crapshoot, but unless there is a major red flag (shoot, id even bet if you had a misdemeanor charge you'd still get in) or your personality is absolute garbage you will get MD acceptances for your stats alone. MD schools like to get your kind of stats because everyone of you, they can accept 2 mission based applicants that have weak scores. Just apply to MD schools, if by for some reason its the beginning of november and you haven't heard a peep then start your DO app. If you're AACOMAS is turned in by december then you'll still get multiple interviews and acceptances.
