Do Doctors get to collaborate with medical physicists and medical engineers to design, research and develop medical devices, technology, etc? Or is this the job of medical scientists and doctors only get to use the equipment?
I am interested in both medicine and physics so would be nice to know that I can do some physics related work as a doctor.
What medical specialities allow this to happen?

Like the above poster said, MD/PhD would be a good way to go. But if you don't feel like putting in the full 7 years, many schools offer MSTP programs (Medical Scientist Training Program). That may actually be a better option for you. I don't know a lot about these programs though, I'm sure an SDN search will render.
