I'm not sure if this has been directly addressed, but how much do you all think getting an interview invite (regular decision) in August/September affects chances of acceptance? For example, I have received an invite from Albert Einstein and Drexel. Since this is pretty early in the application process, could this mean that they are highly interested and I have a more than average shot at an acceptance? Just wanted some opinions. Thanks!

No, it means they want to reject you sooner.

In all seriousness, you probably have a good chance of acceptance as long as you come across as a decent human being at the interview.

I was told yes by an adcom member and a resident that I talk to about the process. There are mainly all of the spots available at the beginning around august, september and possibly october. So you will be vying for all the spots in the class versus a late interview when people are already accepted and you are competing for the spots left over. The majority of really late interviews are just waitlist or rejection. Either way, I'm sure you'll be fone as long as you do well at the interviews.

This is true. You'll be surprised at how many wierdos you meet on the interview trail.

with rolling admissions, i'd have to guess that the answer is yes.

If you interview earlier that indicates your stats are better. That is what gives you a better chance of acceptance

Absolutely for the schools on rolling admissions, especially interviews before October 15. After October 15, some of the seats are going to be offered and thus no longer be up for grabs by the time you get there. It's a lot better to interview in August and and have 150 seats still open than to interview in January when maybe only 15 seats are left unfilled.

Someone who is on the adcom of my state school told me that 90-95% of their first round interviews get accepted. You won't get that percentage in later rounds

Wow thats insanely high.

Does anyone know anything about Albert Einstein's acceptance preference. In other words, I got an invite from them like a month ago (scheduled for Sept. 24th) and I'm pretty sure they have rolling admission. The only thing that is weird is that I have a relatively low MCAT (27), but a high GPA (3.92) so that's why I'm paranoid that I will just get waitlisted. How is it possible that I made their first interview invite round? If you had to guess, what do you think my chances are if I have a decent interview?

You probably got an early invite because you submitted your application early. I would imagine (this is all conjecture, to be sure) that they have a certain subjective standard that an applicant has to meet in order to receive an interview (even if your MCAT was low, I guess the rest of your app was good enough to overcome that), and that the first X number of people to be complete and satisfy that criteria will get the first round of interviews, then the next X will get some interviews, etc. So there may well be some "better" applications who will be interviewed after you simply because they got reviewed later; all the same, early interviews are always great 🙂 It's hard to guess what your chances are at that specific school, but you're off to about as good a start as you could ask for.

I can't stress enough, to other people AND myself, once you get the interview - forget statistics. And forget rejection/waitlist predictions. Just go in there and do your best!!! You never know!
