Any one know of any programs that they would highest recommend applying to? Anywhere...but preferably on the east coast.

How about DO OB programs? 😛

Well I guess I should have been more specific. I would love to do a DO program...have nothing against them...problem is there aren't that many on the east coast...just Philly and New York I believe...and my fiance lives in Baltimore and I would really like to be near him during our first 4 years of marriage. He's in seminary school in DC so him moving just isn't an option right now. 🙁 If we have to tough it out we will, I was just looking at all my options.

The way to research this is to look in the FREIDA database (google it) for OB residencies in the Baltimore area, then go to each program's website (usually hospitals) and look for rosters of their residents. If you see a DO, it's DO friendly. If you don't see a DO, it might still be DO friendly, or it might be DO friendly by the time you graduate.

While you're at it, look up the clinical elective program details at these hospitals, so you're primed to do an audition rotation.

Keep in mind that there are, what, 4 allo medical schools in the DC area.

Lastly, look through the last few years of match lists at your school and see where the DOs went. These are the slip-n-slides.

Best of luck to you.

Its OB............while I say power to you if its the thing for you, it is not an indemand field and its struggling to keep doctors in the field. While some of the elite programs may not have issues filling their spots I am sure you can find a GOOD (even great ) program fairly easily

Thanks guys. Yeah I'm going to do a few electives at the hospitals here...problem is I don't have enough time to do all the rotations I want by the time interview season is over😡. I'm just praying that I'll be ok. Thanks again for the responses.

Univ of Maryland is D.O. friendly and they take comlex scores, take a look at their website.

Yeah but they don't let outside students do electives there...and I don't knwo if I'm strong enough applicant for them just to stumble upon my application and say "We need her" LOL. I'll apply there...but I don't know if they would interview me 🙁

FREIDA is good for most residency specialties, but I think that (for ob/gyn specifically), APGO's residency directory is easier to use. http://www.apgo.org/residencies/by-location.cfm

You may also want to ask this question in the ob/gyn forum on SDN. They may be helpful.

I think you might be confusing Franklin Square Hospital Center's Ob/gyn program (which is affiliated with the University of Maryland) with University of Maryland Medical Center's OB/gyn program (which is affiliated with UMMC). Franklin Square does NOT offer med student electives, but UMMC does. I don't know if one takes more DOs than the other, but I don't see the harm into looking into both programs. I definitely see quite a few DOs on UMMC's list of current residents. So...I think I can see where you're going to do at least one away elective! 🙂

Good luck! :luck:

I don't think the words friendly and OB program really go together
