Hi, Im just trying to calculate my DO GPA using the AACOMAS grade calculator provided by Lokhtar. I have a few questions....and sorry in advance if these questions have been asked and answered a thousand times already....

1. Include repeat grade only, not average (as in alllo)?

2. Math is not considered part of the sGPA?

3. How are P/F included? I don't think it will change my GPA in terms of lowering it, as I passed all my P/F classes (nursing major, so I have quite a few).

Considering if I have the above correct, that is include repeat only, and do not include math in sGPA, then I'm sitting at cGPA3.520 and sGPA 3.676 (if I include math classes then it changes my sGPA to a 3.570).

1. Yes, for repeats, your latest repeat grade counts--not the average.
2. No, math is not included in your sGPA
3. P/F doesn't change your gpa in terms of raising/lowering it.

Why don't you just open up a new application and enter in your courses, just to see what your AACOMAS GPAs are?

If my 1st year of Grad school counted as my senior year of undergrad, and I want to retake some classes, do I need to retake them at the graduate level or undergrad level? They would be Anat/Phys I & II. Thanks.

It can depend on what courses you need to retake. If they were originally undergrad courses, you need to retake it on an undergrad level. Same for graduate level. Unless you can somehow prove that the courses are equivalent.

You should be able to take them at undergrad level, as long as they grant you a permission to do so.

where can we find AACOMAS gpa calculator?

Thanks

Thanks

I think the only way to find out is to go on AACOMAS application site and punch in all of the classes u've taken and all of ur retakes. but don't quote me on that.

The search function on SDN works well. I searched for "calculator" in this forum (pre osteo) and it was the 9th hit, with a very clear thread title. 🙂

I did use it but it didn't work out too well for me since my retake is 1 credit less than the old class.
the old one has 5 credits and the new one has 4 credits. The difference in sGPA was 0.01. This worksheet is kind of a good tool to estimate GPAs if u really need to know urs w/o using AACOMAS.

If the retake was worth less credits than the original class, then it won't be counted as a retake. 👎

I want to say that someone may have posted a few weeks back that this is *NOT* the case for this year, according to AACOMAS. I could be wrong though.

Anyone have a link to confirm? I really hate posting stuff I'm not sure about....I can't find the post and don't have time to keep digging.

Really? I had no idea. I'm curious about this as well. I hope I haven't been giving out wrong info... 🙁

If only AACOMAS didn't have TMDSAS' instructions... 🙄

Are you allowed to get an AACOMAS account and work on the GPA thing without paying and without intention of submitting it this year?

Hi,
Don't know if this will help but here was my situation:
I had 1 retake in which the retake was 2 units less than original class (original class=6 units, retake= 4 units). My situation was that this class was no longer available as 6 units at my college (it was a specific research class offered only at my school, not a premed pre-req like biology or chemistry that could be retaken anywhere) and it was no longer being offered as 6 units since my school reduced it to a 4 unit class. I wrote AACOMAS to explain my situation and they counted my retake. It looks like they will look at it on a case-by-case basis if you have extenuating circumstances. Or maybe they will count the latest retake, no matter what, if anyone else out there can verify.

Thanks for giving your insight!! 👍

yes you can. you pay when you submit. you're under no obligation to follow through with an application once you open an account with them. i did it last year for fun (and for all i know, may or may not be applying this year...).

Are undergraduate courses taken after receiving your bachelor's degree, that have absolutely nothing to do with medical school admissions, count towards your GPA when applying? Scenario below.

I, for example, took a series of classes approximately three years after graduating and was doing fine until I got involved in the lengthy process of getting hired with a police department. I missed class a lot for miscellaneous reasons, and eventually quit going for work. The grades in those four classes faltered quite substantially, yet I never chose to drop because 1) I didn't care after deciding I was never going to go beyond those courses [I was wrong wasn't I, lol] so I didn't care and 2) it was past the point where I could get any kind of refund so dropping didn't seem to be of any advantage to me. The courses were taken on a whim with no regard to future work or degree options.

I've actually since taken a few science related hobby classes and done well with those.

If they were part of a regular college or university and not part of some sort of certificate program that's excluded from normal GPA calculations (see AACOMAS instructions), then yes, those grades will count. Sorry.

Ah, no biggie. Grades are just grades. I wanted to know though. Thanks!

Last year I entered two different course re-takes. Both of the originals were 5 credits and the re-takes were 4 credits and AACOMAS accepted both. I was kind of pleasantly surprised, actually.
