I'm taking bio 1 right now in my freshman year second semester and each test is worth 20 percent 3 tests (including the final ) and lab is 40 percent. I got a 60 on the first test, do I drop the class and take the W and retake it next semester or try to get a B and hopefully not lower this semester. Which would dental schools prefer?

Take the W and reavaulate your studying habits, because it will only get harder as the semster goes on.

Did you study before lecture?
Did you watch youtube on subjects you didn't understand
Did you take notes during class or during studying alone.
Did you use flash cards like and made your own flash cards either on flash card papers or on quizlet or study blue
Did you attend the SI sessions after the lectures?
Did you really study hard for the first test or were you overwhelmed?
Did you form study group to study together?

Biology is super hard! Do not feel ashamed that you did bad on the first test, but change your habits and you will see results.

Sometimes going to another professor will make the materials way more easier than sticking with some professors who are not willing to help the students.

Isn’t your Bio 1 class curved?
Anyways, I would just study hard for the rest of the semester and get at least a B.
One B won’t be an L. You still have 6 semesters to make up for it.

Not sure if it’s the same with your school but advanced level biology courses were easier at my school.

Study hard and take the B. Lab is a nice buffer, that 40% should pull you up in the end.

Gen bio is used as a weed out course at most schools. I thought some of the upper-level bio classes I took were easier than bio 1 tbh.

I wish wish wish it was curved

Take the L. Or just kill everything else and get an A-. I did the same thing my sophomore year in Bio 1500, D+ on exam 1 but killed the rest to pull an A-. Eitherway a B wont hurt you and you're gonna have so many more bio classes after this. Honestly if ur really paranoid and want the A in exchange for a W you can. I had a W my sophomore year and no Adcoms ever cared to bring it up. You're still young and have a while to go dont stress too much.
