First year of college I messed up really bad. I took a gen bio course and failed it and retook it and got a D which is considered passing, BUT the thing is my school averages instead of replaces. I wanted to take upper division classes because I felt behind compared with all my other friends and I don't know why I didn't realize it earlier but I can't go back and retake that class I failed. On top of that, I got a C- in ochem. Is it even possible to APPLY with a C-? I thought all pharm schools require a C or better? Since I can't retake that gen bio class at my school, is it possible to take it at another 4 yr and have it transferred? HELP!!

First of all, PharmCAS averages, so it doesn't matter if your school is willing to replace a grade in your GPA or not.

How have your other grades been since freshman year? You'll need a serious upward trend to show that you are academically qualified for the rigors of pharmacy school.

If I were you, I'd talk to your dean about retaking the bio class - but GET AN A. Explain your circumstances and how things will be different this time around. Else, take it at another equally or better-ranked university in your area. Getting an A at a CC in a class you essentially failed twice won't look too great.

Also retake the ochem course, and take upper-level science classes to show that you're capable. Rock the PCAT, earn your bachelor's, apply to schools within your reach, and be ready to explain what happened & how you learned from it.

Good luck, it's never too late if you REALLY want it!
