Hello I am in my fourth year dental school, Navy HPSP student. I am considering apply for the endo program in Navy. My grade is around 3.55. Is it worth to try to apply for it or do it after a year after Navy?
thank you

Yes, but keep in mind that your gpa and stats are only part of the DUINS application process. It is going to be tough because you're competing with dental officers in the fleet who have proven themselves clinically and have FITREPS (fitness reports) from Navy Dentists who are known at NPDS. I would apply and see what happens. They can say yes or no. I hope you get what you want.

There is nothing to stop you from applying, but your chances of being selected for endo straight out of school are pretty much zero. Endo is the second most competitive specialty in the Navy (right behind ortho), and it is somewhat overmanned at the moment. When I was looking into it as a dental school senior, the specialty leader himself said that he would not support the selection of a student straight out of school. He wants you to be a general dentist for a few years, not only to gain clinical experience, but also because there are a lot of Navy experiences that are no longer open to you when you become an endodontist, such as serving on a ship.

thank you for your feed back! but i was told that it's already to late for apply for 2015's program anyway. I am currently a senior student.
