I am trying to stay positive but just have a feeling I will be applying to DPT schools again next year. I have applied to Temple, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, VCU, Nova, South Flordia, Delware, and MUSC. I am also planning on applying to Wingate and plan on applying to Master Programs in Exercise Science as a back up.

Here are my stats
Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science anticipated May 2018
Cum GPA - 3.37
Prereq GPA - 3.35
GRE - 143 V, 147 Q, and 4.0 AW

I have 130 hours in outpatient ortho, inpatient, and outpaitient peidiatrics. Then I also worked past time and compete as an olympic weightlifter. I also had 3 letters of reccomendations. Do you think I have a chance at all?

Why don't you re-take your GRE? Everything else seems fine (though in my opinion your quantity of observation hours is lacking).

I took the GRE 3 times and for most places it’s to late to take the GRE again because the applications were already due.

Honestly, your best bet would probably be to apply to a couple programs that don't require GRE. If not, maybe think about taking a year to devote some real study time to the GRE and apply next year.

Generally, you can make up for a lower GPA with a higher GRE and vice versa. However, it is hard to get in if you're low in both areas without any sort of good reason that affected your ability to perform. I don't want to be pessimistic, but you don't want to end up in a situation where the only school that accepts you costs $130k and has questionable pass rates.

I was in a similiar situation last year. I had around a ~3.1 GPA and hadn't found time to take the GRE quite yet. So, instead of rushing into the GRE and applying to schools on a prayer, I took an extra year, retook a few classes, and got a solid GRE score. I ended up at my first choice of school.

Definitely stay positive, but be realistic about your situation and prepare for what your next year may look like. If you want to pursue a DPT, then focus in on that and do what you need to do, even if it ends up taking an extra year.

Keep your head up! I didn't get an offer my first year (and yes, it totally sucked!) but I received a couple of offers my second year and am now a first year DPT student. Every year is totally different in terms of what sort of applicants each school receives, so try to have confidence and do your best at interviews!

You said you you are planning to apply to MS programs as a back-up.....if this is something that you would utilize, then this is awesome! However, if your intent is to help give you an edge in the application process, I wouldn't suggest it. I have a graduate degree and it in no way helped me to gain acceptance into my program. I am sure there are a few schools that may add a few points to your score with a graduate degree, but overall I think it is nominal.

Hope this helps - Good Luck! 🙂
