  1. Podiatry Student
Hi. I know this may be really annoying for most of you but I want to hear what everyone has to say about my chances of getting into podiatry schools. I have an overall 3.4 GPA with lil exposure to Podiatry from high school. My science GPA is 3.6 and MCAT was 17. I feel that my MCAT score is really low and most schools have an average of 22. As for shadowing, I haven't done that yet but looking for one. It's hard getting in touch with a podiatrist that is willing to allow students. How do you guys go about that? The receptionists keep getting my name and phone number, and they never call back. What should I do? I want to apply for this cycle, do you guys think it's late? I have so many questions, but having these questions answered is enough to get me started. So do you guys think I have a chance of getting in?

Thanks everyone!! 🙂

Your GPAs look alright but you definitely need to raise that MCAT! Get to the mid 20's or higher and you'll be good to go.

Also, before even thinking of applying this cycle shadow a podiatrist first. I know you said you have a little bit of exposure but you need to gain enough exposure to decide if this is what you want to do for the rest of your life.

Best way to get in touch with a podiatrist for shadowing is through the AACPM mentors network.

http://www.aacpm.org/contactpod/default.asp

Just pick your state and it should give you a list of Pods in your area that are available for shadowing.

Hope this helped.

Thanks, Bahaa. I actually found a Podiatrist to shadow and I can't wait until tomr!!! Any preparations that I should be aware of?

Just have some questions ready. Podiatry has changed a lot in the past couple of years so the exposure you had in high school might be drastically different than now.

Remember the most important thing is to listen and keep quiet, the doc is there for the patient not you. Whenever there is some downtime or you're in between patients you can ask some questions.

Thank you for the tips. Apparently, I went in on Tuesday and the receptionist made a mistake of getting two people scheduled to shadow on the same day. So I had to leave and I am rescheduled for next Tuesday (2/10). I looked up some good questions and came up with some of my own..so I'm prep'd for that.

Thanks 🙂
