Do I have solid EC's/clinical for my app?

I really don't know dis game of med school admissions. But I'm an EMT-B, ran over 200 calls at time of application with my fire department, and it's probably a 400 hour commitment a year including calls. I've done this the past year at the time of app. I also have shadowed an orthopedic surgeon for a semester at college (around 15 times, a few hours each time) seeing 10 different surgeries in scrubs and his consults, am shadowing an opthomologist this semester (but only a few times) and will shadow another doctor next semester.

I have no volunteer experience at a hospital, though, and really don't have any other stand out regular ECs besides the run of the mill intramural sports (except that I've played piano 15 years).

Am I average, below average, above average in this part of this application? Any tips to get better?

I'd say that you are fine with shadowing.

I would put more work into EC's. Volunteer for a cause that means something to you. Go on a medical mission trip. Start a new club at your college (it can be whatever you enjoy). Learn Spanish. Do research. Whatever you like.

Some research experience might be nice. It's not for everyone, but I'd say give it a try. Who knows, you might like it!

But yeah, just do whatever makes you happy.

Edit: JokerMD is correct

you have enough. EC's are important but numbers are more important. if you have a sub-par gpa or mcat, work on that instead
