I see that for some dental school's at least in my North Carolina area the required science courses are

Biology I and II
O Chem I and II
G Chem I and II
and Physics I and II

I am currently a first year Criminal justice major (may change major) with my community college and will probably be at CC for 1 year and transfer to a university. I wanted to know if i took these clasess in this conveniently given order one per semester would that be enough science clasess to make me competitive for dental school or do i need more even though they arent on the reqs and would the 1 science a semester load hurt my chances (of course with a high gpa and DAT)

And if this is a bad move let me know how you might approach it
Thanks in advance.

I suggest taking more than one science course per semester. Some schools say they want to see that applicants can handle a course load with several science based classes. This way they can somewhat determine if you will succeed in their dental school curriculum.

I don't know if it will hurt your chances but I do know that taking more than one will only help.

Add biochemistry to the list. Many dental schools are making that a requirement as well.

Agreed, as it is required at almost every school I have applied to.

The best answer for your question is however that it varies for each school. I would research your top dental schools you would like to attend to determine their pre-requisits. Good luck 👍

this is how i read your question:

if i do the bare minimum will i be competitive?

Add Biochemistry to that list, Genetics, and Molecular Cell Biology. Genetics is on the DAT. Molecular Cell Biology is on the DAT. And Biochem just what what schools want. Good luck 🙂

A lot of schools require anatomy and physiology and microbiology.

Plus keep in mind these science classes are the basics that you will be building upon in dental school. If you don't know the background in all these subjects you will have a very difficult time trying to learn them for the first time in dental school.

Ok thanks guys it sounds like i have a lot more classes to enroll in for next semester, and to UCLazy like i said i am a criminal justice major i will work as hard as it takes but i just didnt want to take to many if not needed.

Ok so my follow up question to this is on the difficulty(and no im not looking for the easy way out im sure everyone likes a forewarning) how tough is molecular cell biology ,,is it fun,, what about genetics ,,what is this the study of. I know about anatomy but on the college level is it a killer,, and biochemistry and microbiology will they start to get easy to understand because i have so many ,,, and Lastly if i take all these science classes which i am interested in science will this get me a double major or simply a minor ,

Bear with me on all these questions guys ,, but I am sure some of you guys have taken these classes or are going to if you reccomended them to me which i appreciate.

The difficulty of the classes will vary depending on where you attend college. Since we all went to different schools, you're not going to get a straight answer on what is easier and what's harder. They can all be pretty challenging depending on how your professor likes to do things. It would be better to ask upperclassmen who are biology/chem/biochem/pre-med/pre-dent majors which are the better classes for you to take at your school and the professors to take.

You should ask your advisor about the double major/minor thing. Most likely a minor but if you take enough biology then maybe a double major.
