Are med school admission committees familiar with the acronyms SMP or Boston MAMS. I am trying to email some schools for advice, but wasn't sure whether I could write that I will be starting the BU MAMS program this fall or if I needed to explain what the program was about. Is it safe to assume they will know what I'm talking about?

Your program should provide you with some sort of boilerplate letter about the program that you can send in via mail before or after you submit your secondary application. Usually it's a letter written by the dean or program director that explains the curriculum and the grading scale for enrolled students. Chances are the admissions committee will have already heard of the program if it's well established (Georgetown, BU, Drexel, etc) but that letter will provide an extra measure of assurance.

That's actually a great question. And if the admissions program does not have a letter, should I ask for one to be written?? Or will something else suffice??

Oh I haven't actually applied yet. I'm thinking about whether I should apply this year or wait til next year. I've been trying to get advice from counselors, and I was just curious if I should expect them to understand me when I say will be starting the BU MAMS program this fall, or if further explanation would be necessary.
