Hi,

I was wondering if you all know if I need to retake my prerequisite courses if I took them between '91-'94? I graduated with a degree in biology in '95. I'm hoping I could just take the DAT and not have to retake all the other courses. Also, should I take upper divison biology courses next spring so that I can get current recommendation letters? Most of my professors are retired (I'm in a different state from my undergrad school). Thanks in advance for your help.

You shouldn't have to retake the courses as long as they are posted to an official transcript.

I *would* recommend taking a couple upper-division courses, or even some lower ones if you feel like you need a refresher.

That will show adcoms that you can compete in a more modern academic environment (quite a bit has changed but you shouldn't have any trouble with it.). The best benefit will be giving you access to professors who can write letters.

Having said that, adcoms will be perfectly happy to substitute professors letters with letters from your employers, etc. I'm sure you've been in the workforce for the last 10 years, and many adcoms would actually prefer LORs from your employers.

ItsGavinC,

Thanks for your helpful response!

Okay, I've asked this before in another thread but I want to get second opinions. I've taken premed/dental courses some 10 yrs ago at Brandeis University. I got b and c for the general chemistry and failed the organic chemistry(twice!) and biology(what the hell was I thinking!). It was a clear sign of immaturity and lack of focus and naivete. What should I do to get around this, retake?
Should I also retake the general chemistry? Wouldn't schools average this out with my previous attempts.
