I have 3 presentations, 6 projects, and two first author publications (case report and systematic review). I feel like my number of presentations is super weak and I'm concerned I need a research year to help with this.

Matched my #1 this year with 3 presentations and 2 first author pubs. Had >25 interview invites, several from top programs. You don't need a research year. Much more important to have great Sub-I performance, strong letters, and a good Step 2 score.

I matched with one paper that i wasn’t even first author on. Connections via sub-Is and letters are more important IMO

Depends on school tier tbh.

If you go to a school like harvard, you don’t need one and will definitely match. If you go to a low tier school, it will be hard even with a research year
