Do I need to take the SAT if I got to a CC and transfer?

I've been taking SAT practice test, but a friend of mine told me that if I went to a community college, I would not have to take the SAT. I'm sure I could score really well, because I've been studying pretty diligently for it. I'm just wondering do I actually need it. I later plan to transfer to get a BS or BA, and later on I probably will take the MCAT and apply for medical school. By not taking the SAT, will any of my goals be effected? It's not that I don't want to take it, but I just don't want to spend anymore time and energy on it, if I do not have to. Thanks for reply in advance.

Oh and the title is suppose to read: Do I need to take the SAT if I go to a CC and transfer? For some reason, you cannot edit the title of your threads on this forum.

Definitely take the SAT. You'll have to present a score to the schools you're trying to transfer to even if you go through with the community college plan (which I don't suggest). Go kill the SAT, apply to 4-year schools, and be done with it.

MilkmanAl, thanks for the advice. I guess I'll go through a few more practice test and get ready to take it. My friend was apparently misinformed. I'm glad there are forums like this to help students succeed, to their fullest potential. 😀

Well, maybe not misinformed, just not wholly informed. I'm sure there are CC's you can get into without SAT or ACT scores, but not many people know that transferring schools is essentially the same as applying to them. Anyway, I'm glad the advice helped. Good luck on the SAT. 🙂

I agree with this. Some want the SAT, some don't.

Take it. Period.

I also agree about just going to a four year school. Transferring is a pain. I am thinking about taking the CC route but I feel pretty confident I can get into the other schools I want which are not that competitive and aren't that expensive OOS. All of which have medical schools and are in the mid-west.

Anyway, bottom line is that I would only use CC as a backup plan if all else fails, which it shouldn't unless you just did not care at all about high school.

Actually, most don't require them. Most CC's just require you to graduate from high school with a 2.0 then you take an entrance test and pass it and are accepted. I'm taking dual enrollment classes at my local one. I really only recommend this as backup like I have already said. I am contemplating it because of my not so stellar GPA but I am scoring very high on my SAT practice tests so I should do very well this spring when I take them.

Honestly, as long as you pull a 1400 and get at least a 2.99 GPA, you can get into a lot of great schools. That is one thing I love about UG, its forgiving. Medical school is too in some ways but not as much as UG.

Jefgreen, great reply and great advice. Thanks!

No problem. May I ask why you want to go to a CC and transfer?
