Hey guys, I just took my DAt today ...
PAT 20
QR-17
RC-19
Bio-19
Gen chem-18
Orgo-18
TS - 19
AA-18

Gpa 3.86
sGPA 3.75
Any advice?

gpa is high all scores are either above average or are borderline average. I think you are fine in my opinion.

Really? I've been crying ever since I got my score lol. I honestly thought I would do better

Awesome! Which did you find most helpful? (Oh and good job!!! Now you can finally kick it a lil and relax 🙂 !!!

haha i know it sounds weird but i honestly don't seem to enjoy that it is over, because i wanted a higher score.
the most helpful was obviously chads haha
Bootcamp and Qvault were really helpful for practice as well.

good luck 🙂

i am in my senior year, i graduate in december, i go to detroit mercy. and yeah a high gpa usually correlates to a higher AA, about 80% of the time, i am usually a good test taker, today was just horrible, my eyes were shutting, i couldn't sleep last night because i was so nervous lol. I just emailed one of the head admissions guy so we'll see what he tells me, i just wanted everyones opinion on SDN as well.

Do you think you would have done better if you weren't sleepy? Did you make careless mistakes or just didn't know some of them?

the problem was time, i honestly did not have time to go back and check my answers 🙁

Going back and checking your answers can hurt you sometimes.
PAT 20 (this is solid, no need for improvement here)
QR-17 (you don't even really need much better than this, it shows that you get the math though)
RC-19 (this is okay as well)
Bio-19 (not terrible, but im sure you would've liked a point or two higher)
Gen chem-18 ( what was hardest here? conceptual problems or math? you're math score makes me feel like it was your conceptual analysis that was off but you know better than I do)
Orgo-18 (I don't know what wrong here)
TS - 19
AA-18
So did you take any practice tests? I think the key to doing well on the DAT is:
1. Knowing the material
2. Practice questions -(you have to see a lot of different types)
3. Taking practice tests, the more ways you're exposed to a question the more comfortable I think you'll be. Just my 2 cents. I'll let you know how I do on the 21st, if I F*** it up im hopeless. Good luck dude!

I don't think a retake is necessary. Your gpa looks awesome. Assuming you have strong EC's and LOR, you're good to go!

I think your fine. Your scores are not as bad as your saying they are. I mean you have a 19 TS. Its not like 16 or 17, so dont sweat it! Your GPA is great though!

Uh you're right about going back and checking answers, it could hurt. It was very weird because for organic I was scoring around 20-22 for each practice test. I think my anxiety just took over. Oh well, no excuses. Thank you and good luck 🙂

I have Around 100 volunteer hours and 180 shadowing hours... And I hope my LORs are good haha.

Thank you so much, hopefully the committee will look at it that way too

also you have to realize that you shouldn't just retake for the hell of it...there is an off chance that you won't do as good and plus this test is becoming ludicrously expensive...I honestly think you are good to go. I would put you slightly above average and don't get discouraged from all the high scores on here...remember SDN represents a minority of everyone that apply.

You're right, you have no idea how much money this whole process cost me!
And yes, those scores are ridiculous on SDN haha! Thank you so much 🙂 I feel a little better

My friend gave me a bunch of valerian root pills to take because she said I freak out during testing and get the jitters. She had some xanax before her exam because she was a nervous wreck too, worked for her. I haven't popped pills in years and years so I wouldn't do it myself but maybe something to calm you down would help like valerian root. I don't know yet I've been studying with the pills next to me but I hate taking supplements. Maybe a cocktail before the exam?

I don't think you should retake. Your GPA is amazing and your individual scores are either average or above average.

What boggles my mind tho. How was your TS a 19? I got an 18 in bio but 20 in gen chem and 21 in orgo and I still have a 19 in TS. I guess bio is weighed more? lol

anyways, you should be good. I have 19aa/ts with similar gpa and got one interview so far.

good luck!

Haha no ill stay away from pills! And I don't advice a cocktail before the exam :x but hey whatever works for you 🙂

I think bio is weighed more, that would make sense? Haha and thank you, my dream school is u of d, so we'll see if I get there!

Your TS score is not an avg of the sciences section. It is scored out of the 100 questions total for the sciences section. (so yes Bio would be weighed more since there are 40 questions BIO and only 30 each for chem and orgo)

You do not need to retake. Everything is above a 17. I have a friend applying this cycle and she has a 18/19/18 and a 16 in math with a 3.8. She has one interview. 3 out of 4 of the people accepted from my school last year had an 18AA. You're good.

Wow, that's news to me, that's really good... Thank you 🙂

hey guys, thank you for all your replies, so i decided to retake it because i thought " no way ill get an interview" but what do you know, i got one from UDM, my dream school lol
it kind of sucks because i already paid to retake it and scheduled it and took the semester off, if i knew i would of gotten an interview i wouldn't of done all that.
i am just wondering if the admissions people look down on applicants that have retaken their DAT?

First good job with your GPA. Yes DAT is a little low, but it all depends on what school you want to attend. The mean for Detroit Mercy is TS:20, AA:20, PA:20

Schools look at DAT retakes differently. Some take the average, others look at the most recent, and others look at the top score. Either way you want to do better the second time. I read on the ADEA guide that Detroit Mercy looks at your most recent score.

Good luck with your interview! Make sure you prepare well for it.

i just wanted to thank everyone for their help! i got an invite for an interview when i had already decided to take my DAT, i paid for everything all over again, uh!!

anyways, but now that i got my interview i want to wait after december 2nd to take it so i know what they've decided, so if they accept me, i won't have to retake it obviously but if i am rejected or wait listed ill retake it.

my question is... do you guys think i should tell them that during the interview? should i tell them "i want to wait until after december 2nd to retake it so i know what you have decided?"

It's my understanding that if you get an interview, they must be ok with your numbers/other EC's and stuff. It's now mostly up to you to do the rest. If they weren't ok with your DAT score, I have a feeling they would have rejected you for it. I might be wrong, so someone please correct me.

yeah but the thing is i already emailed them and let them know ill be retaking it in november before they even invited me for an interview and then about a week later i got the invite...i am just wondering that maybe they invited me because i told them i would retake it? and i already took the semester off and everything, they are going to ask me if i am still retaking it, so my question is do i just say the truth and say that ill wait until after december 2nd to see what their decision is? or is that not something i am supposed to say? uh i don't know :scared:

Don't say anything about retaking the DAT if they don't bring it up. I really doubt they invited you just because you told them you are planning to retake the DAT.

I have similar dat score as you and got an invite. I don't plan on retaking my dat either..

Agreed. I don't think they would invite someone just because they MIGHT do better on the DAT on a re-take.

Agree with the rest of the advice as well.

Your TS is a separate score that is based on total number of questions right out of 100 (the three sections combined). It's not an average of the 3 individual scores... This is described on the unofficial score report... For example, I got a 19 in GC 20 on Bio and a 27 on OC and my TS was a 21.

Well before I got the invite I had emailed them telling them I would retake it, and the lady said she'll put a note on my file... But if they do bring it up ill just be honest and say I wanted to prepare for the worst.
Thank you for your advice everyone.... II really appreciate it
