I posted at the WAMC thread and haven't gotten any response. I'm a sophomore with a 3.0 gpa right now. I got C/B/B in gen chem 1/2/ochem 1 and i'm taking ochem 2 this spring. I also got a B in bio 1, with bio 2 in the spring. I also have a C in calc 1. I have A's and B's in other gen-eds, and have not taken PCAT yet, I'm planning on taking it this summer. I'd like to apply to maryland, UGA, pitt, temple, lecom - bradenton, and the new pcom.

1. Is it a good idea to re-take calc 1?
2. Will i stand a good chance at getting interviews for fall 2013 if i can pull an A in ochem 2 and bio 2 this spring? clearly my science gpa isn't strong, that's why i'd like to re-take calc 1.

thanks for any help/advice

Q1: Do you understand the course material? Would it prevent you from getting a good grade with Cal 2? If you feel you know your stuff and can do well in the next Cal course, I would retake it later (Maybe a quarter where you are taking time consuming classes)

Q2: Yes, it looks good, but having good grade alone doesn't guarantee you an interview. You need to have EC as well. I am not sure if admission looks at your grade for each of your classes (Probably just bio gpa, biochemistry gpa .. listed in pharmcas)

I have 2+ years experience at CVS, that's about my only EC. As for taking calc 2 potentially, i took calc 1 in fall 2010 so i probably would seriously struggle with calc 2.

Retake Calc 1. At my school calc 2 was a continuation of calc 1, it really built upon what we learned.

I don't think they allow you to retake a course if you get a C on it, unless I'm wrong.

Well, technically you can retake anything that you want to 😉 it just doesn't replace your previous grade if you didn't get an F (counts as a "ineligible repeat" or something like that...) At my school, if you received an F in a course and you retake that course and manages any grade higher, that grade will replace the F (which counts as a 0.00 towards GPA) when they calculate the GPA. Of course the F will remain on your transcript, however. Not all schools do this, though, and PharmCAS/pharmacy school admission probably doesn't. In OP's situation it doesn't even matter; they'll just average out the C and the grade he/she gets next time, if I'm not mistaken.

However, if you feel you really need to retake to get a good grade in Calc 2, then by all means. I got a B- in Organic 2 (out of the 3 quarters), I still retook it because I was so shaky, and felt like that helped me so much in understanding the materials. Like many have said here, I think it's important to understand the materials to do better in future classes, not necessarily to improve your GPA (though that would be nice.)

I got a C in calc 1 and 2 and wouldn't retake them if someone paid me to lol. Take classes you enjoy and are actually relevant to what you'll learn in pharmacy school. Just my opinion.

I'm not particularly interested in taking calc 2,I'm considering re-taking calc 1 it for the sake of getting an A and then averaging it out to a B
