I have completed 2 years of undergrad, one at URI, and the second at a CT community college. I plan to do one more year at the cc, solely based on cost. I then will transfer to UConn to finish my bachelors. My GPA is 3.8, science is 3.7. My grades are great, I did well in high school, but I now am married with two young children, so as far as extracurriculars- if they include laundry and singing bedtime stories- I might be shoe-in.

I am hoping against hope to go to UConn dental, but I am wondering how my time at this cc will impact those chances. I was on the Dean's List, in honor societies, in the honors program, and had a 3.9 at URI, so I think I have proven that I am capable of coursework beyond the cc.

Also, how (if at all) does going to UConn as an undergrad effect admission to their dental school?

I think you are fine. Just keep that GPA high, take upper level sciences and do ok on the DAT (19 or 20) and I think you will get in. Its all about making yourself the best applicant possible. I would work on some shadowing. If there is any way you could fit that in this summer, then you would have everything you need. Don't worry about where you are going to college. I don't think it matters as long as you keep that GPA high.

Some schools like Tufts won't take JC courses whereas many other schools will generally look down upon it. Having a high GPA helps, and I am sure they will be understanding of your family situation...but taking the classes at the 4-year would be to your best benefit IMO.

Well, that makes me feel better.

Does anyone know what kind of effect it will have attending the same undergrad college as the dental school I am applying to?

I'm at UConn dental now, and I think maybe about 10/40 students in my class are from UConn undergrad. I think UConn undergrad has some kind of predental program that you can join...
