I am a freshman at Florida State University. I came here and got distracted and it hurt my grades.
I started to fail a few classes so I withdrew from them including a math course which I have done now twice in a row.

My GPA is 2.3 now but with future classes im sure I could bring that up.

This next semester I will get serious about my work but im worried I might of screwed my chances up.
Would ADCOMs understand if I had a rough few semesters adjusting to college?
Could anyone please advise their opinion?

Thank you!

I believe a strong upward trend would help you a lot. Calculate what you think you could reasonably get your gpa up to if you were getting A/Bs and definitely get the problems under control before you take a heavy course load. Your only a freshman so I believe there is still hope! Search the forum for the low gpa help threads and you will find lots of information. Good luck!

Yes you do! I had a 2.6 my first semester freshman year, but with an upward trend, good ECs and a great MCAT score, you’ll be fine. Just fix whatever was going on and work hard from now on!

Getting some bad grades your first year of college won't doom your chances for med school. It's not as if you killed someone while driving drunk. GPAs can be improved, and don't singularly determine an applicant's suitability for medical school. That being said, it makes the road harder, as you'll need to put in extra work to raise your gpa, unlike some of your pre-med classmates who already have 3.6+s. And it's easy to say next semester I'll get that 4.0 - harder to do it.
