Anyone else in this boat? I have gotten DO interviews already from everywhere I applied (except Nova, don't know why they don't like me) but only a single, measly MD interview. I don't mind, 'cause some of my top choices are DO's, but it is strange. Its like there is some line drawn in the sand. DO's think my app is great but MD's couldn't care less.

Maybe because I'm a non-trad? My uGPA is not so good, but I have a master's (with a very high gpa) and am a college bio lecturer. Its interesting that DO's can see past the crappy number and see the rest of my application whereas the MD's must be stuck on that 3.07.

Same deal for me. Iv'e gotten interviews at every D.O. School I applied to but only one M.D. so far. I think I'm about average for M.D. and above average applicant for D.O., maybe this has something to do with it. Oh well, I'm hoping for interviews from all of my top schools.

Because you touch yourself at night.

Actually, its probably because you're non-trad. With good "recent" credentials, we typically get put on hold, and they take a little longer to get to us. Usually, "get to us" means "reject us". But not always.

I'm also somewhat of a non-trad. I hope this is not the case....I've gotten two rejections so far, one because I was OOS. Oh well, cheers!

I think you guys both have great stats, definitely good enough for MD or DO. I think DO schools tend to evaluate the entire canidate ... not just a gpa/mcat cut off equation. Either way though ... you'll both get into some great DO programs!!

Hate to say it, but your undergrad GPA is gonna kill you when it comes to MD interviews. As horrible as it is, most MD schools don't give a crap if your poor GPA is from grades that are 2 years old or 20 years old.

DO schools and a very few MD schools tend to look beyond those bottom line numbers. Good luck to you.

You may be right. My only MD interview is from Virginia Commonwealth, which from reading the MD boards, is not a very numbers-hungry MD program. We'll see if any others fall in their boat later this season. My MCAT is strong (12 VR, 13 BS, 8 PS) but might not be strong enough for the MD programs to take notice.

DO's are way cooler anyhow.

hey congrats on your interview to VCU...when were you complete?..im still waiting to hear back

VCU isn't very numbers-hungry, but they do look for something beyond the numbers. If you have experience, they can look beyond some pretty low numbers..... But there were more than a few folks with really high numbers (but no experience) that didn't get interviews at VCU a couple years back.
