DO Letter after August?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
First and foremost, take a deep breath. You'll be good. Don't psyc yourself out, focus on your MCAT!

In terms of the DO letter, you could use an MD one as a replacement, have you shadowed an MD?
What does your app look like? GPA, MCAT (what are you aiming for), EC's. Will give us a better idea of whether or not you'll be competitive applying a bit later in the cycle.

I'm writing my MCAT in 2 weeks, and my letters are gonna come in mid-July.

Submit your AACOMAS asap with your transcripts, extracurriculars and personal statement included. As long as you have specified the person that will be writing the letter, they can submit it after your primary. Your ideal goal is to have your letter done around the time you submit your secondary.

I'm fairly new here but this is what I've been getting from people. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I dont want to be misleading.

Thank you for your response! I did shadow an MD from who I received a letter. My app is pretty average -- cGPA of 3.7 with emphasis on research as EC's. I have volunteering experiences (~150 hours total).
I'm aiming for 510 on the MCAT, but I think it is going to be between 505-510... I have just finished transcript entry, and will probably submit it later next week due to the transcript and finals.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm on the same boat and I'm submitting with an MD letter instead of a DO (can't find many in Canada).

Your GPA is above the average and If you can score 507+ you'll be good. Just focus, do alot of AAMC material and kill the test. Check with specific schools but most of the schools im applying too are fine with an MD letter. So if that's the case I wouldn't wait till late August for your DO letter if I were you

Hello everyone!
I was wondering if submitting a letter from DO after August would be okay for application cycle.
I am graduating in about two weeks and will be taking a gap year. I am planning to shadow a DO for about 20-30 hours and ask for a letter. Should I first clarify that I would be asking for a letter before the first shadowing?

Though it's not related, but I was also wondering when is considered "late" for the DO school application cycle. I will be taking the MCAT on 6/30, and have not completed AACOMAS yet. Should submit my AACOMAS first before/waiting for my scores?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time to read my post!

I'm taking 6/30 too! I wouldn't worry about all the aacom stuff now.. focus on the MCAT. A good score will absolutely negate the three weeks or so you could have had your app in earlier.

I would apply without the DO letter for now and then update schools with it later on.

I probably wouldn't state to this DO going into it that you want a letter from them. I have 3 DO LORs from people I shadowed, and they all broached the subject before I did. I think people usually assume you want a letter when the shadowing gets set up.

Good luck on the 30th

Submit without the DO letter, then add it later on. A lot of schools, even if they say they require DO, will still interview you without it (with an MD letter) if you are an otherwise strong candidate, but then require it before you matriculate or within a certain amount of time after acceptance.

This happened with me but I was a very strong DO applicant, so n=1 and take this with a grain of salt.

I would also somehow let the schools know (those that explicitly require a DO letter) that you will be getting a letter in the near future.
