Do LOR letters from volunteer coordinators have to include the hours served?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I'm about 60 hours in at my volunteer job at a local hospital. I have a great relationship with the coordinator and had always hoped she'd write me a solid LOR. I just found out that her last day is in 2 weeks (she is retiring after 32 years). I have evevy intention of continuing my volunteering through the summer. Should I ask her for a LOR even if I've not yet completed the recommended hours of volunteer hours?

Yes, ask for it and explain that you will continue nonetheless. Also, make sure she puts the hours you were there for...this also goes for LOR from dentist's since many schools need verification that you completed a certain # of shadowing hours.

Definitely ask! It's not so much about the number of hours, but it's that you feel you have a close relationship with her that she'll be able to adequately judge your character and be willing to write a great letter for you!
