I am going to be collecting my last couple of letters soon, and I am just wondering what deadline to give people if they ask when I need them by. I was thinking I'd just say June 1st, that way if they are late at all it is still way before secondaries, but if they are actually needed with the primary I might ask for like May 15 instead.

Thanks!

You should aim to submit them to AMCAS asap after the primary application opens on June 1. You can submit your primary before your letters are in. But keep in mind that it takes a while for AMCAS to process and send them to schools. And some schools won't consider your application complete until they receive them-- this could delay your receiving your secondaries. So just to be safe, I would tell your writers that you need them by May!

Based on my experience with my thesis advisor, always tell your letter writer that you need your letters much, much earlier than when you think you need them.

Absolutely - just trying to determine when exactly I do need them.
