Hi all! I am trying to figure out what to do (or what I should do) for my gap year, and I was wondering if you could help. I'll provide hopefully all the necessary context.
MCAT: done, and I am happy with my score
GPA: Happy with it, would not take any more classes to improve it
Research experience: 1 year in a lab doing wetlab research (no publications or posters, mostly menial tasks) at my university, 1 summer at a clinical research lab doing drylab work (2 publications, 1 poster at a research conference in the field), another publication for drylab work that will be submitted soon from a class at my university.
Volunteering: 160 hours clinical, 100 hours nonclinical (by the summer I will likely have around 175)
Clinical experience: besides volunteering none yet, but I am expecting to get about 300 next semester as an EMT (I graduate in December)
extracurriculars: I work for my student newspaper as an editor, and I am in a chair position for a tutoring club for inner-city middle/high school students.
My current thought is to continue working as an EMT and doing volunteering after college. I have also thought about applying to journalism jobs (for some more money/for fun) as part-time work.
Do you have any recommendations as to what would be best? Thanks!
