some people claimed that DO and MD are technically the same in every way?
is this true? then, why DO even exist if DO is same as MD?

D.C = Doctor of Chiropractic medicine
D.O = Doctor of Osteopathic medicine, started by A.T. Still MD,DO in the mid 19th century as an opposition to medical procedures conducted by medical doctors such as blood letting and injection of heavy metals like mercury to treat diseases. He believed that the body was a unit within itself that repaired itself and could heal and deal with disease and that through osteopathic manipulations you can assist the process of helping the body repair itself.


The difference is purely a historical schism of medical practices, which ended around the later 20th century when medical practices became more safe for patients and more entrenched in science.

DO = MD + some musculoskeletal stuff, some say it is more holistic
MD = "traditional" doctor

I thought that MD = real doctor and DO = can only treat people with vitamins, fish oil pills, hugs and smiles? Is this wrong? Why have we never had a discussion about MD vs DO on SDN before today?!

They are the same thing. DO easier to get into

technically, only wargs and eunachs can be DOs whereas MDs were maesters. but the fall of the dragons brought not only the end of the Targaryen reign, but the end of the major differences between the two. Now hospitals are filled with MDs, DOs, and sellswords all having the same practice rights.
