Hey All,

I'm just writing to get some opinions on my school list(s) for the upcoming 2017-2018 cycle. I'm applying both MD and DO; mostly DO. I am a re-applicant! PA Resident as well.

Here are some stats:

M.S. Biomedical Science GPA: 3.825 (semester GPAs - 3.7/3.95)
DIY Post-Bacc. GPA (Non-Trad. Major): 3.63
I'm not sure what my cGPA will be to be honest; likely ~3.4 once M.S. grades are added.
sGPA likely around ~3.6 - 3.7
MCAT 504

Research in Genetics throughout my DIY post-bacc., ~500 hours
Public health research, ~150 hours
Shadowing several specialties, ~100 hours
Significant clinical experience, patient-physician contact, ~1500 hours
Several volunteer experiences, ~250 hours
Some extracurricular activities throughout each education level

Anyway, here are the lists I came up with. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

DO:
Chicago COM
Edward Via COM - Carolina
LECOM
Michigan State COM
NYITCOM
Nova Southeastern COM
Des Moines COM
Touro COM - NY
University of New England COM
Pikeville - Kentucky COM
Westen UNiversity of Health Sciences COM - CA
West Virginia COM
AT Still COM - Kirksville
Rowan COM
I was going to apply to PCOM but if you noticed my post from yesterday, my MCAT score is too dated (April 2015, they only accept August 2015).
I'm willing to add/drop with any suggestions.

MD:
Cooper of Rowan U SOM
Drexel
FSU
GCSOM
Temple
NE Ohio
PSU
Jefferson
University of SC
West Virginia

Thanks in advance to anyone with advice/critique!

Here's a more realistic MD list; DO list is fine:

Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)

Oakland U Beaumont

Loyola

WVU

MCW

Creighton

VCU

Loma Linda (but read their list of don'ts)

Albany

Your state school(s).

Thanks for the quick reply!

5 of the schools on the list are PA schools. For the non-PA schools, which would you drop and would you mind explaining (shortly) why? I looked for schools based on mission as well as MSAR stats and those seemed to be closest to mine, or so I thought. I was just wondering, why would you not include a school such as FSU, NE Ohio, Cooper, etc. Thanks again!

State schools favor the home team; hence, one has to be > avg for them. Just look at the IS/OOS rates for those given II and accepts. And I made my list because your MCAT score in < the 10th%ile for schools. One has to have something big to offer to make up for that.

Those are heavy in state biased and the few OOS they do accept tend to have stats far above their averages or have some other intangible that most applicants don't have.

You probably have a good chance at GCSOM. Where did you do your masters?
