if you take bio or chem for college credit in High school, would that count towards the pre-req or no? It is a legit college course that goes on that colleges transcript and counts towards GPA, you just take it in the high school.

I would recommend taking them for credit at your university. From my understanding, med schools look at highschool grades through a different filter. If it is a pre-req then it will look so much better taking it at a uni

Edit: my friend took AP credit for physics and had a successful cycle. He wished he took it in college because he believes it would have boosted his sGPA (hes really good at math). So as long as your other classes have good grades and do well on the mcat you shouldn't be at a disadvantage.

AP credit might or might not count but an actually dual enrollment class should count no problem

There are few med schools that openly state a bias against CC coursework. None will look down on a graded course taken in HS at a 4-year college.

I AP tested out of some classes including Cal 1 but my advisor said I could take Cal 1 or even precal at the university if I wanted to even though I already tested out of them. Might be different rules from school to school though. I also don't know if medical schools would look down on this for whatever reason.

To the OP, if the class is a course at an actual college where you take it with other college students, then what gonnif said for #1, 2, & 3 are true.

For AP credits, most schools I applied and looked into to accepts them but you should double check with the school. Out of the schools I looked at (and there are plenty that I did not look into), there was only one or two schools that appears to not accept some of my test credits according to their website. This may have actually been for my one clep test I had rather than the AP tests but I have taken advanced courses that has the these tested out courses as a prereq and made As on those advanced courses in addition to tutoring people in these courses and therefore should demonstrate I have mastered the prereq material so I would have inquired the medical school about it if I had decided to apply to that particular school

Lets clarify a few things.

3) medical schools will not look at these grades any different than other grades. To repeat them would actually be a much worse idea as it would lead to speculation that you didnt learn anything. Repeating any class that you got a C or better in is generally a bad idea

My University wouldn't transfer one of the classes I took so I had to retake it at my University. I also had AP credit for calc and took it at my University anyways because it had been a while since I'd taken it. There's also another course that's independent and I've taken it multiple times but each time with a different project/focus. I've gotten A's in all of them. At this point it's too late for me anyways but would this all be looked down upon?

For puposes of medical school, it is wholly immaterial if a course taken at college A as dual enrollment in HS is not transferred & accepted at college B. Courses/credits count from the original institution where the course was taken, not the school was transferred to.

The AP credit awarded may or may not be accepted by medical school as it school specific policy that you will have to check in MSAR

Oh I just meant will it look bad that I have repeated the same courses. For example I had taken a class at another university but my current university didn't transfer it so I retook it here as well.

How it looks is wholly irrelevant as you are required to retake it. Why worry over something you must do and have no control over... move on

Yeah that's a good point lol...

you definitely have to report them to AMCAS thats for sure

I applied many years ago, but when I was applying those that had AP credits in the core science classes just had to take a higher level course in that same field. For example if you take AP Biology, you would have to do a higher level 4 credit course as something like microbiology or physiology.
