Do med schools often use Baron's Selectivity Index to assess undergrad institution quality?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I really wonder how much residencies care about where you go to med school compared to how much med schools care about where you go to undergrad. Probably dependent on specialty. I wonder how much it would matter for surgical specialties.

This question has been beaten to death on SDN.

Bright, organized, and motivated students are more likely to go to highly ranked schools. Going to a highly ranked UGrad does not magically confer on you some bump in admissions.

It's moreso that prestige matters. The difference in education between UConn and UMich wont be that different despite a giant difference in rankings. U Chicago vs UConn ? Yeah would expect some more leeway there.
No, it won't unless that Chicago is app'ing Harvard and so is UConn...

You youngsters get all balled up into @#$ that doesn't matter. Stop. Focus on you being you and not trying to figure out some scam means to get in a better spot than someone else. If you focus on YOU then the rest doesn't matter... but if you focus on what someone else does or went or did or had or didn't have or facial hair or not or color of skin or rash or STD or anything that is not relevant TO YOU?

You are screwed before you start.

/rant off 🙂

At least the IA inquiries are generally legit concerns.
I have at least 3 ... 0.0 GPA; 0.9 GPA and I think once again at 1.2 ... yet, here I am

as for your other question - you missed my point like a shooting jet over your head... relatively SAME GPAs, SAME everything (they lived together, worked together, studied together which is how I met them; same volunteer work, similar ECs, different races and religions; similar MCAT)

To this add:
"I got a B in my OChem course. Is my medical career over?"
"I have 2.5 cGPA (and/or 485 MCAT). WAMC?"
Oh, C'mon you know it's not nice to post my stats! :roflcopter: (and it was a 2.196 tyvm)

Not really. Just because all their other parts of the application are similar doesn't mean their MCAT will be similar also.

Alas, that relationship didn't work out!

My engagement was also recently broken. It’s very painful but it would have been MUCH messier if we would have gotten married and then divorced shortly after.

So sorry! Hope you heal soon and become stronger through this process.

It’s painful but liberating! I guess that’s how you really know the relationship was defiantly not going to work out.
I feel your pain. While in my post-doc, I had a torrid affair with this gal who looked like she stepped out of a Playboy centerfold . Unfortunately , she was also crazy. You wanna run from crazy.

She dumped me, hard.

And two months later , I met the gal who became Mrs Dr Goro!

*Goro secretly bragging that he hooked a 10/10 lady*

Seriously though, I feel you on that.

Hopefully I’ll find the future Mrs. ClamShell in med school. Hopefully she’ll be a feisty law student! I have a thing for lawyers and I don’t know why.

There's a Jack for every Jill out there and vice versa.

Funny you say that. I know more than a few successful Doctor/Lawyer relationships/marriages. Pretty sure @mimelim wife is a lawyer. I currently know someone who is a MS1 at UCLA Geffin SOM and his girlfriend is first year at UCLA Law.

If that relationship existed before they started med school and law school, then that's destiny right there.
It did...by a few years. They both went to UCLA for undergrad. He was on the water polo team, she was on the soccer team. Both have won NCAA Championships on their respective teams (he actually won 2 with water polo). Funny thing is he was accepted at UCLA Med a few weeks before she was accepted at UCLA Law. She had already been accepted at USC Law and was not particularly happy to be from a family of Bruins and having to go to SC. But in the end she didn't have to. 😀

Better to be dumped than to dump. Less/no guilt.
