For those of us who are applying during our senior years, are we required to turn in transcripts of the fall and spring semesters to medical schools?

no, once you get accepted and matriculate you'll have to send it in to make sure you did OK in your classes. however, if you get waitlisted, you will probably want to send in an updated transcript, and getting waitlisted seems pretty common, so do well in your classes.

I was under that impression too, but apparently it may vary from school to school. I got this letter from suny downstate saying that they needed my fall grade report, which I found to be very strange. I'm a masters student and my program director personally called admissions over there and they claimed that it was standard policy for students (undergrad and grad) who are currently enrolled in classes during the application process to send fall grade reports. I'm still not convinced though. I'll post again when I find out more info.

You are REQUIRED to send in ALL transcripts.

Official ones cost 5 bucks/transcript. I am going to send unofficial ones unless otherwise asked.

Schools will not accept unoffical transcripts. Sorry.

So I have to spend at least 100 bucks just so they can have my "official" grades? Thats not very understanding 🙁

Depends on the school--some schools (Rush and Creighton, for example) say you can submit unofficial student records as updates. 👍 (You'll most likely have to submit official transcripts to schools that allow student copies when you matriculate.)

very very few schools require transcripts for application...they do all require transcripts if you matriculate, so you'll only have to order one set of official transcripts. that said, there are a few schools that want transcripts as part of the application (wisconsin for one), but you don't have to send transcripts to everyone...that's the whole point of amcas verifying all your classes, so you DON'T have to send transcripts to every school.

However, if those new transcripts contained improvements in GPA, it would be stupid to not send those in ASAP.

very true. But you think that they would not accept an unofficial copy? Why would they think anyone would lie about something so easy to verify?

They won't accept an unofficial copy. There's no way to argue aound it. That's the purpose of an official transcript.

I have a question kinda related to this thread about transcripts....do medical schools require all transcripts from every school attended....over the summer I took a genetics course at a summer school unaffiliated with my college but failed in it (because the teacher gave me a zero on an exam because he failed to recognize my medical issues even with proper documentation)...but my undergrad college has no idea that I took this course

Yes, they require transcripts from every college/university attended. If you don't turn them all over, they might not find out, but if they do, I believe they can withdraw your acceptance. Which would be incredibly bad.

I'll leave the failing thing to someone else.

Yes, you are required to submit that transcript. If you don't disclose, and get an acceptance, it will be yanked away from you.

Even if you're an M4. I have heard stories of people being kicked out of med school for lying on their apps.
