Just curious. Are there formal lab courses in med school? I'm guessing they're more involved in cadavors(sp?) ? What are they like compared to an undergrad bio lab that involves dissection in terms of format? Are there lab reports

Thanks

There are lab courses, but usually you don't recieve a separate grade. E.g. Anatomy includes cadaver dissection, but it is all one grade.

The labs are more for the students benefit (both in grades and knowledge). They are usually more involved. There are no lab reports... but of course, there are practical portions of exams. Most of the lab portion of exam is straight-forward 1/2/3 degree questions. The written exam is where true integration and thought is tested.

Anatomy dissections will be much more involved than your undergrad experience, to a level I can not put into words. But it is one of the many amazing parts of the process, and you will miss it when it is finished.

There's no chemistry labs like in undergrad where you're using glass equipment.
There are cadaver labs, but that's not all. I would guess it depends on the school, but we had histology labs where you look in microscopes (or digital images) the whole time. They were a little like some undergrad bio labs. We also have labs in the spring for IV, blood draw, etc (clinical medicine labs)
And I believe the MSIIs have microbio, pathology, etc labs for those classes

No formal lab reports. They're there for you to learn and study so you can pass the practical part of the exam. The professors assume that by now you don't need to turn in proof that you completed the lab in order for you to actually complete it.
