Do minority PT applicants have a better chance?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wouldn't not weigh my chances like that. Personally as a minority I want to earn my way into pt school not because of a shortage of certain ethnicities in this career. Also as a reapplicant I can say schools do not choose students based on this distinction.

Good question! The answer to that is "No". I myself am an African-American and have really been involved in the application process for the last 2 years with MULTIPLE pt programs (calling admissions departments, speaking with faculty, talking to current students). You application is based strictly off of your numbers (GPA, pre-req GPA, hours). The top candidates who have the highest scores get interviews/accepted. In my opinion, I like that it is like that. I recently got accepted to U of Saint Augustine and will be starting in January. Being African American, now that I think of it, it feels alot better knowing that I got in because I was highly qualified and not because of my ethnicity. Hope this answers your question. Keep striving to achieve high grades/scores. There is not many minorities in the profession and hopefully that changes in the near future.

At our school (I am a faculty and Chair of the Admissions Committee) we do not. At all. As a matter of fact, we do not even include that field in our screening matrix and only after interviews and acceptances, etc go out, do we even look at the field to compile statistics.
