do most schools look at an upward trend?

this may seem like a hard question to answer as we are not the selection committee. However, has anyone specifically asked schools if they factor in an upward trend in your grades or if an upward trend compensates for a lower GPA? I have a 3.7+ the last three semesters and my first two years of college i had under a 3.4.

As long as the upward trend goes along with a consistent/increasing difficulty of courses, it should look good. It probably won't matter if your upward trend was based on 5 ceramics classes, but it would look good to have one while taking classes like orgo, anatomy, biochem, etc.

of course it looks good. but a 3.4 is already good lol

Yes, they do. It looks favorable on your application.
