Hi guys,

So I'm currently looking at schools and there are a couple schools out of state that I really enjoy the environment of and could get scholarships to (UNL and GMU), but I was chatting with a doctor who said she thinks there's preference to NYS residents and graduates of the undergrad programs of the SUNY schools that have medical schools. Her evidence for this was her class at UB was "80%" UB graduates and New York residents. I did some research on this and found some conflicting results, with some claiming that NY is one of the few states that don't have preference to residents. Obviously the path to medical school will be hard, so anything to even slightly ease that path would be awesome.

Should I limit myself to SUNY?

State New York schools do. The other ones don't. However, the boost NY residents get to NY state schools is not as good as the boost given by many other states to their residents. NY and CA are notoriously two of the worst states to be a resident of when applying to med school.
