NYU as well as Maryland say do NOT copy and paste essays into secondary application. I'm assuming this is just because of formatting issues that people have?

A. Probably.

B. It may be hinting at reusing your personal statement. Don't do that.

I find some schools don't care and some do. For those that do, I copy from word to wordpad first, which I think eliminates any issues. Than I copy into the app. Except of course for that crappy GW app that forces you to do it all in one sitting.

If you play around with the application (try copy and pasting), you can see what works and what doesn't. A lot of the time the formatting will get messed up if you copy and paste from word. As Tacmon said above, copying it into Wordpad and then copying from there into the app usually eliminates the formatting problems; however, certain apps are just irritating, and I had to type those in word for word. Just make sure that you read over your essays before hitting submit if you ever copy and paste (or even if you don't... just to be sure).
