hi, i was wondering if anybody knew if chances for getting into a DO or MD school lower if you apply to both types of schools. I'm not sure if they want students committed to only their approach to medicine or if it's irrelevant for selection. Thanks!

First of all, how would they really know if you applied to both. There are two different application services for each, so unless you told them or you live in Texas where the same service is used to apply for both then I dont think they will ever know. Many people apply to both MD and DO, even people like me that only want to be a DO, and get in to both or either so I dont think it really hurts your chances or makes a big difference. I would not worry about this very much, you have much better things to worry about if you are applying to med school.

they would know because they might ask you on your secondary or at your interview. Just be able to answer the why question for both. It doesn't hinder your chances as long as you can convince them of your reasoning for applying to both if the question is brought up.

I would highly doubt it. They probably wouldn't even know unless you specifically told them you were applying to both. Apply to as many schools as you can to increase your chances of acceptance, unless you are dead set on osteopathic or allopathic school.
