So back in September or early October, i was doing some Jiu Jitsu in which I was slammed on my shoulder and received an injury. Got an x-ray the following day and it turned out to be a "Grade 3 AC joint sprain". The treatment that the MD told me was to wait a couple months and slowly begin doing some trapezius and shoulder exercises, which should ultimately help my shoulder. I wait until I can move my arm again fluidly and begin doing minimal shoulder exercises to strengthen the shoulder muscle. However, up until a week ago, the sharp pain was still very prevalent. I shadowed an Orthopedic Surgeon and he told me that its normal and that I should keep doing what im doing. At this point I was very frustrated due to the lack of progress and scared because I feared I would ultimately need surgery. The other day, a sibling to one of my friends ( a DO ) takes a look at it and starts rotating my arm in a certain way. I felt some popping but surprisingly no real pain. After she was done, I went for a workout and I am so happy to say that my shoulder felt much much more stable. There was minimal pain and I was able to bench press close to what I use to. I was able to keep perfect form on my pushups and easily crank out 20 reps (something I couldnt do with the bad shoulder) for 3 sets. I know she didnt cure me because the pain is still slightly there, but whatever she did, it definitely helped.
The point for posting this was to say that I realized just awesome a DO doc can really be. I really dont understand why DO docs get so much crap around my school. Im sure an intelligent MD could have helped to fix my shoulder as well but it really felt like they simply didnt care enough to check my shoulder.
Anyone else have any experiences with DO docs that they found amazing?
