Do Prereqs need to be done before AMCAS app goes out?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm in a bit of a tough situation.

I want to be able to start medical school by fall 2011 (I'm a non-trad, currently 29 yo), which means that I would want the AMCAS app to go out in June 2010, which is just a little over a year away. I still have to take 3 quarters of Organic Chem as well as a few quarters of bio and physics. I could easily finish all these prereqs before fall 2011, but since I work full-time I think it would be pushing it to try to complete them before June 2010.

So the question is: do medical schools require that all the science prereqs be completed before the app is sent out, or is it okay to not have all science prereqs completed just as long as they are done before matriculating?

You can finish up the pre-reqs after submitting AMCAS. I think there was something on there like "Planned Courses" - you'll obviously need to make use of that section, but it is definitely not a problem.

You do NOT need to have your prereqs finished before your AMCAS goes out. Ideally, you should have the majority finished so schools are better able to judge your preparation, but a class here or there shouldn't be that big a deal. Many/Most students apply their junior year for entry after their senior year despite having a few prereqs remaining. I'd say a bigger deal is making sure you've finished the main prereqs before you take the MCAT.

done before matriculation will be fine
