I have been emailing my professors this week to get my LORs, but only 1 of them has gotten back to me. And most of them live across the state so I can't just drop by their office. Do professors usually check their emails during the summer? I'm wondering how screwed I am...

Some professors never seem to 😉 I'd assume most check it, but maybe less frequently.

From my experience, they check it less frequently. Might just be because there's less need to during the summer when they don't have students. Is there another way you can contact them?

Yeah I suppose I'll have to start calling them. Not looking forward to those conversations...

It's the week of the 4th of July so I would give them another week to respond unless it's super urgent. Then if no response after that, just go to their office or call them. Don't sound mad or anything, just be glad once you get in touch.

Only the ones that are up for tenure really respond.

Had a similar situation during the winter break trying to get LoR...some professors never got back.
