do program directors look at 4th year grades?

hopefully not although i am getting honors so far. only takes 1 attending to kill your grade without a shelf

They look at everything.
Case in point: radiology applicant with an otherwise very good application had a very lukewarm comment for his 4th year radiology rotation. The thing about 4th year rotation comments are that they're usually positive, and at the least, generic. Lukewarm = bad and is like a codeword for "watch out".
Suffice to say, we ranked the applicant low based on this alone.

what type of language do you refer to when you mean 'lukewarm'? Like a particular word or sentence was off?

Here is the new scale:
Bad Student: He was a solid medical student.
Avg Student: He was a hard working medical student with a great fund of medical knowledge.
Good Student: He was a superb medical student with superior medical knowledge and unmatched work ethic.
Great Student: I would let this student care for my grandmother and marry my wife, they performed at the level of an intern and had the most impressive fund of medical knowledge I have ever seen at this level.
Moral of the story is compliments mean nothing unless they are of Trumpian proportion bc everyone is expected to say something nice.
