DO Radiology

Can people who do DO rads residencies get "board-certified" just like MDs and DOs who do allopathic rads residencies. I put "board-certified" in brackets because I'm not sure what this generally implies. Why I ask is for landing jobs. Most the job listings I've seen ask for board-certified so I'd like to know if a DO rad radiologist would ever be disadvantaged when looking for a job like this.

Osteopathic specialites have boards and board certification, too. They are equivalent to the MD residencies/board certification.

I emailed a medical recruiter off Aunt Minnie and he said from his experience "almost no partnerships" will hire an AOCR radiologist. Is this guy mistaken?

If that person's handle was "outpatientadrules", then that person is totally biased.

I do not know what the big deal would be....those that went to DO residency programs still go through ACGME fellowships, and this is the first I have heard of any of them having trouble finding a job.

This made me laugh a little.

All the people I've talked too, from many conventions where they recruit people, I have never seen this. Most residents get hired before they are finished with residency, DO or MD.

Besides, my 8-ball says "not true".

I have talked to many recruiters in the Southeast, and it is true for that region. They will hire AOCR certified radiologists, but then they treat you like crap and never make you a partner. It depends on what regions you are looking at and how competitive those areas are. Then again, South Florida is looking to hire mostly fellowship trained radiologists, and is very anti-DO in many parts. Yes, you can go to conventions and find recruiters there, but they may not be for the most desirable areas. Almost any kind of doctor can get a job anywhere, it may not be the region you desire though. It is not as true for Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, etc that are more DO friendly.

You think those SE regions etc. would be more open to a caribbean MD with a US allopathic residency or equally against both?

Hope you have blonde hair and blue eyes..🙄 Heard that's like 20 extra points to your Step 1 score.

I find it puzzling (and troubling) that a fully-trained radiologist, b/c he/she is DO boarded, gets treated like crap. Do these AOBR radiologists in the SE not have any b@lls?

Honestly, I hope this statement is not entirely true. (or there's sarcasm and I totally missed it b/c I'm sleepy).

Hey there...congrats on ophtho!!!

Rads or bust here!
