Title says it all![]()
speaking of MSUCOM, just read that they are increasing their class size to ~350(!!!). crazy...
dunno. With such a huge class, it wouldn't hurt MSUCOM to accept a modest number of OOS students (like they do Canadians), while reducing their inane nonresident tuition.Wow! I'm betting this is distributed across the three sites? KCUMB expanded their size from 250 to 270!

Class of 17'- 265; Class of 18'- 270.
Dang! Increase of 5! The whole DO profession is circling the drain! 😉
From what I've seen KCUMB has variable enrollment and likely even depletes its waitlist because some years they legit have 15-20 less than the previous. Though, not that I'm complaining.
Me neither. I wonder if a lot of it has to do with location?
PCOM seems overrated. While it is one of the better schools, I probably wouldn't put it in the same tier as the state schools.PCOM has a reputation of being called the most MD DO school.

Anyway new thread idea. Most underrated DO school.

And @op all of them.

Agreed on these two fronts. NYIT/RVU seem underrated also. That's a complicated thread topic... I mean really.
I guess the most underrated in my book is LECOM.

Yea seems like RVU is better then originally thought.Heh, we disagree on NYIT. You know that. RVU despite its for-profit status has proven to be a decent school.
Are you and serenade both from Lior, Amastris?OSUCOM is another one. They have their own academic medical center.

It's too late to send a primary here huh? lol.
Do you wish to submit a primary to OSUCOM?

I think they have a huge regional bias
That's what I've heard too. It seems like a great program though.
I concur, I believe OSUCOM is equal to most state MD schools and maybe better than some of the private MD schools. OSUCOM does require a DO LOR, unlike a lot of other DO schools.
MSUCOM's curriculum is identical to MSUCHM with the addition of OMM. So I would say MSU hands down.
Do you think it's worth submitting a primary? I do have the requirements met!
Whoa, I thought you were banned.Do you wish to submit a primary to OSUCOM?
Eh not really. I agree with @pollos that it's CHM + OMM tacked on for a couple hours every week (plus we have nicer, more rounded students 😛).Yeah but MSUCOM has a huge emphasis on their OMT and osteopathic principals. Other schools just barely make OMT a requirement.
It's gotta be TCOM.
Whoa, I thought you were banned.
If you have the money and a DO LOR, why not? I suggest you submit the primary asap (like right now) and start pre-writing the secondary. Submit the secondary within hours of receiving it. One aspect in your favor is that OSUCOM only starts interviews from October, not August like some other schools. So hopefully you won't interview too late. There is a chance you may receive an II before Christmas! Best of luck to you!
Great! Thanks for the help and welcome back!
PCOM has the most extensive OPTI of any DO school and its own teaching hospital. Even MSUCOM doesn't have it's own hospital, nor does OUCOM.PCOM seems overrated. While it is one of the better schools, I probably wouldn't put it in the same tier as the state schools.
Philly's definitely one of my top choices atm. Too bad they get so many applicants.PCOM has the most extensive OPTI of any DO school and its own teaching hospital. Even MSUCOM doesn't have it's own hospital, nor does OUCOM.
I had a pretty solid application, and they didn't even shoot me an interview. They're very much about fit, so it's kind of a crapshoot. Probably the only place I'd have heavily weighed versus UNECOM.Philly's definitely one of my top choices atm. Too bad they get so many applicants.
I recall hearing UNECOM had a strong regional bias and was super bent on primary care.I had a pretty solid application, and they didn't even shoot me an interview. They're very much about fit, so it's kind of a crapshoot. Probably the only place I'd have heavily weighed versus UNECOM.
A lot of residents want to work in PA, but to work in PA as a DO, you have to do a DO internship year, so many of them stay in Philly and do DO internships.I recall hearing UNECOM had a strong regional bias and was super bent on primary care.
PCOM's residency system is pretty extensive. Lots of grads stay in the area for training and their students are supposed to be pretty popular in the region.

UNECOM doesn't have as strong of a regional bias as people make it out to be, it's mostly self-selection, as people figure Maine is 99% less awesome than it actually is. They do like primary care, but not everyone is a primary care saint here. Seriously, it's a hidden gem, and one of the best DO schools in the country IMO, if you're willing to:
1: learn OMM fairly well- we've got a strong OMM department that demands a lot of you.
2: put up with a fairly ambiguous but strangely beneficial grading system.
Honestly I love my school, even if I hate my life around when block weeks hit. They train us well.
Yeah, UNECOM is a great school, and honestly is one of the best-kept secrets in the DO world IMO. I don't want to talk it up too much, because I'd almost like it to stay that way- we attract a very particular crowd of people, and all of them are awesome. If word got out about how great UNECOM was, it'd probably dilute the pool a bit.I know a UNECOM grad who is a distinguished specialist and professor at the Johns Hopkins hospital. Just one of many shining examples.

A month isn't that long. We've got a ridiculously long cycle. You don't even know if you get accepted for 2-3 weeks minimum. I think it took about two months or so for me to get an II with a 35/3.8. Best of luck to you though- I have no idea how they select who they're interviewing, it seems pretty random. They like Mainers, but other than thatGah yeah. UNECOM seems amazing but I sadly haven't received an ii from here and submitted my secondary a month ago.

Normally I wouldn't encourage a letter of interest, but if you don't hear from them in a couple months, I'd send them one that is carefully worded, as it might get you back in the active pile. I did interview with a guy from California though, and about half of the people I interviewed with weren't from NE, so I wouldn't stress it too much.Wow those are some awesome stats!
Yeah my chances are probably the slimest it can get with being on the literal opposite end of the country in San Diego hahaha.
I do absolutely love the environment of NE though, it reminds me of monterey bay CA if you know about that location.
