I know a lot of schools say that they only need the OAT scores to come in at a certain date, but do they wait for your OAT scores before they grant you an interview even if you send out your application now?

Also, if you took your last OAT last August and you want the scores to be sent out to all the schools you are applying to, do I have to request that from the OAT people? Or is that not necessary because my OAT score will also be included into the my OPTOMCAS application?

Thanks!

the OAT score is due by a certain date, but they actually do not finish processing your application until ALL stuff is turned in, so your score needs to be in. also, you have to send the scores to each school individually and they use it to verify what you put on OptomCAS and so that they have your scores on file.

Okay, because at this point, I did take the OAT last year, but the scores are not that great. I was hoping to not insert those scores yet, put in OPTOMCAS that I'm planning to take the OAT in September, in hopes that they don't reject me right away judging by my old scores (they're below average, but not terrible).

I guess I should put in my old scores anyway just to ensure that I'm considered an early applicant?

oh I see what you mean
maybe you can submit the scores now and then tell the schools that you are taking it again
when are you taking it?

I'm planning on taking it mid-September. In that case, even if I send in my application today for example without the scores, I won't be considered an early applicant because in their minds I'm actually applying in mid-September?

yeah, i guess
some schools may be different tho so the best thing to do is call the school directly. they are very helpful

If your scores are average, I think you should definitely submit an app ASAP. There is also an option that you can input, saying that you are planning to retake it. Mid-September is also fairly early in the application cycle. So as long as you improve on the OAT, I don't think you have much to worry about (assuming your GPA, shadowing, etc. are up there too 🙂 )
