DO schools with no required DO LOR

Trying to find D.O. schools that do not require a letter of recommendation from a D.O. physician, since there are no D.O.'s in my country.

Rowan, Midwestern (AZCOM/CCOM), UNECOM, NYIT-COM. Keep in mind these schools are also harder to get into.

There are other schools that will take
an MD letter in place of a DO like Nova. Just do a search on their websites. It's not hard

I have a MD letter (will be by far my strongest letter) and about 100 hours of shadowing; however, I would recommend you to try your best to find a DO to shadow for a few days and get a letter from them as well.

This term I plan to start emailing/contacting DOs in the city I live.

TouroCOM-NY, PCOM-Philly, CUSOM, MUCOM, NYIT-COM, UNECOM, RowanSOM: just from the schools that I applied to.

Edit: All of these schools required a physician letter though.

As to why consider D.O. Well I was looking at med school options and what caught my eye was their different approach.

yes...
LOR can be from anyone. From the president to anyone who knows you well (just avoid family members).
As long as you have a DO letter for schools that REQUIRE DO letters, it doesn't matter who other letters are from.

What is your residency status in the US? You may be facing a significant uphill battle unless you have ties to the country.

I really wish we could sticky these items in this section. It would be very resourceful for applicants next year.

OP, LECOM-B allows you to interview without having turned LORs in. When you're there you can have a DO write your letter.

I just made sure my writers didn't mention one degree or the other, just "doctor."

MSUCOM just requires letter from any two people that know you well, in a profession setting. Not even a physician requirement.

UNE doesn't require a physician letter, as well. They do, however, require a letter from some sort of supervisor that isn't a teacher.

Coming here to double up on some above: both MSUCOM and UNECOM are good ones to apply to with no physician letters (though UNE does recommend one). I had success at both with no MD/DO letter.

I contacted LECOM and they told me:

"It is required. If you are offered an interview you will need to let us know this at that time. We may be able to have you meet with one of our D.O. physicians while you are here."

I interviewed at LECOM with a DO letter; however, there were people there without one. How it works is you stay after the interview day, sit and talk with a DO faculty for a while so they get to know you, and then they write a letter for you which counts as your DO letter.

I'm not sure as I had my DO letter already but I doubt it. Seemed more of a they write the letter and put it in your file rather than let you use it everywhere. Not sure how helpful a letter like that would be at other places anyways.
