Do step scores matter when applying for cards fellowship?

I've heard mixed opinions about this. Would appreciate input from people who have been

They actually are considered, unfortunately. The weight on these scores likely varies from program to program, with some placing no weight on them and others an inordinate amount (any). But I know firsthand of at least 1 cardiology fellowship program where these scores are discussed during ranking meetings.
